“Boiling Point” is an animated short about gender expectations, body image, and the media. It began as a series of pastel sketches inspired by the models in fashion and beauty magazines. These sketches were reworked using actions described in the magazines’ articles: plucking, scrubbing, erasing, etc. The drawings were then animated using a combination of digital manipulation and stop-motion animation. The resulting short explores the tension between beauty and bodily self-policing, and the difficulty of breaking free of cycles of desire and dissatisfaction.

“Boiling Point” was produced with support from a Somerville Arts Council Fellowship in Interrelated Media. It premiered at the Boston Short Film Festival.
